Medical Mastermind is 5010 Compliant

Medical Mastermind Practice Management system has fully implemented the new HIPAA Version 5010 guidelines into their practice management software.

The Version 5010 insurance reporting standards will replace the current Version 4010A1 standards, and
must be adopted by January 1, 2012.

5010 Compliance - Medical Mastermind
Medical Mastermind is 5010 compliant and fully functional for Highmark Medicare, PA Blue Shield, PA Capital Blue Cross, Palmetto GBA and Emdeon (both professional and institutional claims).

“To our Medical Mastermind customers, the upgrade will be totally transparent,” said Robert Jandorf, President of Software Unlimited, Inc. “With the new 5010 guidelines, there are specific formatting changes that have to be implemented, such as mandatory use of 9?digit zip codes in some areas, as well as the fact that you can no longer use post office boxes for office addresses.”

Some of the changes your office should be preparing for include:

1. Zip codes on the In-house Doctor screen MUST be 9 digits.
2. Zip codes on the Office screen MUST be 9 digits.
3. Zip codes on the Hospital screen MUST be 9 digits.
4. NPI numbers MUST be entered on the referring provider’s screen.
5. NPI numbers MUST be entered on the Hospital screen.
6. You may NOT have a Post Office Box as the address on the Office Screen.

According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, literally “every standard has been updated, from claims
to eligibility to referral authorizations.”

For Medical Mastermind clients, the upgrade is free and it takes just minutes to become fully compliant.

The cost of non?compliance could be emotionally and financially frustrating.

According to cms.gov, “All HIPAA covered entities must transition to Version 5010 by January 1, 2012,” and non?compliant transactions submitted after January 1, 2012 will be rejected.

While the transition to International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 10th Revision (ICD-10) is occupying most of the public debate at this moment (and rightfully so, considering that the comment period on the proposed change closed May 17), the enforcement period for Version 5010 is fast approaching on July 1. And truth be told, any chance of successfully moving to ICD-10 requires a long look at the challenges of going to Version 5010: “The question is, have enough lessons been learned through this 5010 experience?”
